CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

One of the major music events in Cape Town is the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, previously the Cape Town edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival. The festival in the cape Town International Convention Centre draws visitors from all over the world. The highlight of this year was the ver last performance of Miriam Makeba, one of South Africa true musical legends. "Not a Diva", she emphasized during a press conference prior to her very last concert at the 2006 Cape Town International Festival. "I am no diva. Because what is a diva? No body knows. I am just Miriam Makeba, and I like to sing," Mama Africa continued before preparing herself for het Grand Finale Tour, which marked the end of Miriam Makeba's 50+ year musical carreer.

This People Photography section is dedicated to Miriam Makeba, who is lovingly called Mama Africa, who is the first African Gramma Award Winner ánd the first African artist with an International Hit. "Pata Pata". The following pictures of Miriam Makeba are taken during the press conference at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and during her very last concert.

I took the following pictures and photographs during a 48-hour township tour through some of the townships that surround Cape Town. I visited Langa Township, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, and Lwandle near Somer Set West.
